Verona at the forefront of renewable energy production

"Renewable energy will save the planet". A slogan that we all know, but it is not so simple to produce energy from renewable sources. Verona and Veneto, however, are at the top of the country's plan to achieve the goals set by Europe; it is not just an ecological choice, but investing in renewable energy also brings an economic gain, a fundamental element for the development of the industrial sector of Verona.

The situation at the national level gives hopes, with a small but constant increase in the use and production of solar energy and a brilliant achivement of biogas and wind energy. Verona in these fields is definitely at the forefront and stands out among the major producers.

Going into the specifics, Verona is the second province of Veneto for annual solar energy produced (360.8 GWh), second only to Rovigo, while it is first for installed power (352 MW). As can be seen in the graph created by GSE (Gestore Servizi Energetici), Verona generate the 1.8% of the total solar energy produced in Italy.

Analyzing the biogas sector, we can find out how Italy is the fourth country in the world behind Germany, United States and China. Verona at the regional level following only Padova, the major producers of the Veneto Region (third producer at national level).

Looking at the future of renewable sources, the forecasts are optimistic, especially with regards to wind energy (an investment of almost 3 billion is expected by the end of 2020). Also in this field, Verona is keeping up with innovation: the installation of the four Affi wind turbines, operating since 2013, to which recently two others have been added, are proof of the clean air that is breathed.

Renewable energy is a very important theme for the care and development of the Verona area and for this reason it must be one of the main topics of the industrial sector. The incentives for industries to these types of activities are progressively decreasing, but the new generations of entrepreneurs must continue to follow the ecological direction already undertaken for years, which will lead them not only to economic growth, but also to a strong respect for the territory which has always distinguished the citizens and companies of Verona.
