Smart Economy, Smart Land: internationalization in Verona

One of the key features of a smart economy according to the European Commission is its international embeddedness. This means that the more a territory has a strong relationship with foreign markets, the more its economy is going to be smart.

From this point of view, the province of Verona is certainly one of the most advanced in the country. As part of Veneto, the second region in Italy for import and export, the city of Scaligeri is naturally open-minded towards the rest of the world and has a dense business network with other countries. In 2014 Verona was the first province in Italy for wine and marble export, and the third as far as fruit and vegetables are concerned.

More broadly, in Verona not only export keeps on growing but also importations (+7,1%). Despite the crisis, its economy is still solid and internationally oriented. This thanks to the strong enterpreneurial spirit of local companies and the support of the Chamber of Commerce, with its internationalization help desk and the four web platforms about fashion, food&wine, furniture and automation.
