Olive oil and Verona: a long and successful journey

During the 20th edition of the extra virgin olive oil Palio at Torri del Benaco, organized by AIPO (Oil manufacturers Association), the Veneto’s producers have confirmed the qualitative growth of oil production. Under Veneto section, divided into four categories, there are 8 out of 12 producers from Verona rewarded, and 2 in the national ranking.
Olive growing in Veneto and, in particular, in the Verona area can be dated back even to the first Roman settlers, and further information can be find out also throughout the Middle Ages. Moreover, since 1500 historians and writers have described the landscape fascination of Verona groves.
According to data provided by Veneto Region, the area occupied by olive groves increased by almost 40% between 2000 and 2010, turning into 5,000 hectares in the next two years. Verona is the area that above all committed itself to the cultivation of olives.
The olive oil may be considered one of those high-quality food products that make famous the Made in Italy abroad, not only thanks to its organoleptic characteristics but also for the territory value of the olive trees that have become a typical element of the region.
A further evidence of the important role of Verona in this context is the fact that the extra virgin olive oil "Tenuta Sant’Apollonia da Agricoltura Biologica" produced in Valpantena, was included in the new international guide Flos Olei 2017, edited by Marco Oreggia and Laura Marinelli who have selected the best extra virgin oils in the world produced between 2015 and 2016.
Hence, since 1998, Enolitech (International Exhibition of Wine-Growing and Cellar Techniques & Olive-Growing and Olive Oil Technologies) is the only trade show in the international scene and it represents an important reference point for oil producers and for all operators within the olive oil value chain.
Veronafiere announced that registrations for Enolitech by Italian and foreign companies have considerably grown since last year, increasing by 20%. The pavilion dedicated to this event, simultaneous to Vinitaly, will enlarge by 10% in the next edition, reaching almost 9,000 square meters of exhibition space.
