AlghItaly: the innovative cultivation of Spirulina in Verona

Today we want to tell you about one of the most interesting innovative companies of our territory, that we had the pleasure of having as partner during To Be Verona 2017 events and for the To Be Verona Panel Discussion dedicated to excellent start-up by Verona and its province.

Born in 2013 AlghItaly is a company from Verona based on an innovative way to conceive agriculture: its core business is the cultivation of algae, that occurs thanks to a close system, a modular photobioreactor, that unlike classical system allows to produce seaweeds in their selective environment.

The main production of AlghItaly is focused on Spirulina, a microalgae very interesting for its nutritional value, because contains an high quantity of proteins and all the 21 aminoacids.

The extraordinary content of nutrients of Spirulina have made already known in centuries ago in Central America and Africa, thanks to its positive influence on health and well-being.

Spirulina is in fact one of the most nutritious whole foods and is rich in precious nutrients such as minerals, vitamins and antioxidants: from here derivate capacities as anti-inflammatory, hypolipidemic, antithrombotic, antidiabetic, anti-tumor, antioxidant, immunostimulant, antimicrobial, antiviral, cardioprotective properties , antianemic, neuroprotective, prebiotic, detoxifying.

The truly innovative goal of cultivation system created by AlghItaly is the modular photobioreactor – a patent created by the President of the company Francesco Campostrini – that allows the cultivation of algae whit a punctual control of the temperature, pH, and contaminations, unlike other sysrens that provide the cultivation of algae in open pond.

The products currently on sale based on Spirulina are food supplements, energy bars, flake food, a line of cosmetics, and will come soon fruit juices and bakery products.

AlghItaly has reached important results, as the win of  Oscar Green’s Award promoted by Coldiretti Giovani Impresa to improve the innovation in agriculture: all this thanks to the work and the winning ideas of its President Francesco Campostrini, creator of the FleXifotobio photobioreactor and expert in the field of renewable energy, and of Matteo Castioni, agronomist and responsible for the scientific and technological development of the company.
